The gallery is closed.

We tried our best to stick around...but the damn rent gets you everytime.

We owe everyone who visited the gallery a huge thanks for their support. Except for the jackass that came in one night, walked straight to the bar, and was pissed we weren't serving complimentary glasses of Silver Oak. We would especially like to thank all of the amazing artists and musicians who helped make the gallery what it was. And we certainly can't forget to thank all of the people who own some of our art!

Dixie_20071206 Ain't Whistlin' Dixie No More
Thursday 6-9pm
December 6, 2007

Book release party, reading, and signing.

You're invited to Carson Medley's book release party and reading at artMinds Studio in downtown SLO. Carson will be reading from his novel at 6:50, 7:50, and 8:50 and giving away a free copy of his novel every hour. But, as you know, ain't nothing really free. In other words, there will be a 1) "Do the Hustle" dance contest 2) Trivia contest (brush up on your knowledge of Dixie, 1994, politics, popular culture, cinema, music, language, and Civil Rights history) and 3) a Wild Turkey shooting.

Thunderbolt Junction out of Paso will be pouring, and SLO's very own Central Coast Brewing Company will provide the suds. There will also be soda and snacks for those who wish to skip the imbibing. And the art and music will certainly delight and instruct.

Hope y'all will come out and let Carson show you how they get it done down South, Miss'ippi-style with a SLO twist. Oh, and a guest rapper might show up.

Fishtank Ensemble (Live at artMinds Studio!)

Bandphoto2007 Live at artMinds Studio on Saturday October 27th, 7pm. Presented by SLO Folks.

Tickets at venue $15
Tickets at Boo Boo Records $16.50

Romanian and Balkan Folk Music, Flamenco, Gypsy Jazz, Klezmer and Original songs.

The Fishtank Ensemble offers a unique and truly worldly musical experience. From the smokey cafés of Bucharest to the Gypsy caravans of yesterday, this band evokes the spirit of a past age and the sounds of tomorrow. This lively and unusual group consists of talented musicians mastering their respective instruments: violin, saw, accordion, shamisen, flamenco guitar, contrabass, percussion and voice. Romanian folk music forms the bulk of the material with a healthy helping of flamenco, Swedish folk music, Klezmer, Gypsy jazz, other folk sources as well as original songs.

“Fishtank Ensemble are the rompin', stompin' leaders of
cross-pollinated Gypsy music.”
– LA Weekly

“They are Incredible!” – Gypsy Flores of KUSP

"...Their repertoire flows naturally from flamenco to klezmer to Romanian and
Hungarian folk and beyond. There's no catch here and nothing conceptual at
work. It's just great music played by great musicians..."
– Will York, SF Bay Gardian

“Fishtank Ensemble is why we keep doing our Show”
– Mike Perazzetti, host of RadioMike's New Show

"Joyous, knowledgeable, definitely athletic indulgences in the melding of the best of several cultures."
– Mark S. Tucker for Folk & Acoustic Music Exchange
